Norwegian singer/songwriter Jarle Skavhellen is a rootsy performer who combines traditional acoustic folk sounds with his own yearning melodies, unique voice, and atmospheric production. Raised in Bergen, Norway in a musical family, Skavhellen first began playing guitar around age 11, studying with lauded Norwegian guitarist Mads Eriksen.
Sifting through his father’s extensive vinyl record collection, he gravitated toward the classic folk and country of artists like Chet Atkins and Dave Van Ronk. Similarly, with his uncle’s many guitars at his disposal, Skavhellen quickly developed into an adroit player. He first garnered attention with the release of his evocative single “The Ghost in Your Smile” in late 2016 and was quickly found and signed to Nettwerk Records (Passenger, SYML, Angus & Julia Stone). In May 2018 he released his debut album with the same title, garnering praise from both national and international press. This last year he also toured with Ciaran Lavery, Teitur, and Villagers.
